Product Testing & Validation
In-house adhesive tape testing lab covering peel adhesion, tack, shear, FTIR, environmental aging, and field validation per PSTC, ASTM, and ISO standards.
Overview
ALS Tape operates an in-house testing and validation lab for adhesive tapes and film constructions, applying standardized methods from PSTC, ISO, and ASTM. Lab testing covers peel adhesion at multiple angles, rolling ball and probe tack, release force, shear resistance, FTIR analysis, viscosity, and surface energy measurement. Environmental simulation includes temperature cycling from -40°C to 205°C, QUV accelerated weathering, and humidity chamber testing for long-term durability validation. Field testing complements controlled lab results through temporary versus permanent bonding trials and real-world shear testing with hanging weights to validate performance under actual-use conditions. The combined approach provides both controlled scientific data and practical qualitative assessment before specification is finalized.

FAQ
What test standards are used in ALS Tape's lab?
Testing follows PSTC (Pressure Sensitive Tape Council), ASTM, and ISO standard methods for peel adhesion, tack, release force, shear, viscosity, and surface energy.
What environmental conditions can be simulated?
Temperature testing covers -40°C to 205°C. QUV accelerated weathering simulates UV and moisture exposure. Humidity chamber testing validates performance under elevated moisture conditions.
How does field testing differ from lab testing?
Lab testing uses controlled standardized methods to produce comparable data. Field testing uses real-world conditions — such as hanging weight shear tests and actual substrate bonding trials — to validate practical performance that lab numbers alone may not capture.
Can testing support a custom adhesive development project?
Yes. Testing is integrated into the custom adhesive coating and design support workflow, enabling iterative validation from prototype to production specification.
